I'm not crazy about leisure, amusement, and entertainment. I prefer to be working or meeting people, but sometimes you need a little distraction. In the leisure department, these are the things I enjoy when I'm not working or exercising. Audiovisual LeisureAudiovisual media must be my favorite kind of leisure. I love not to have to make an investment of physical energy to enjoy entertainment. Just recline and enjoy. MoviesMy favorite genres are horror and film noir. I watched hundreds of horror movies (more than 700) and several hundreds of noir films. Other than that, I like cult classics that are not horror and other underground movies, but I haven't watched as many as I watched the ones that belong to my two favorite genres. SeriesAt present, I'm going through an intense phase of American TV series watching. It may be because I did a lot of movie watching during the last decade and it pushed the series to a secondary place. Now I'm catching up with both the old and new series. I could make a list of my favorite series but I just don't want to favor one over the others. Almost every series I watched or I'm still watching has at least a redeeming point that keeps me interested. Interactive LeisureWhen I don't feel tired and have extra energy that I can invest on top of the time investment, I like to pass the time with interactive leisure. Video GamesWhen it comes to video games, I am an omnivorous player. I played, and play, a very wide range of video games genres based on a lot of very different topics. I am not what you would call a hardcore gamer. I had a phase of hardcore gamer like ten years ago when I played online multiplayer games every day, almost the whole day, but it was the most unproductive phase in my whole life and I will never repeat that leisure lifestyle. When a video game that I'm playing allows modding, I mod them. I am very proud of my prowess as a modder since it isn't easy (at least with the games I chose to mod) and I sucked when I started modding, but that has changed. To clarify, I don't create mods, I mod games with the mods others created. Still, with the games I decided to mod, to mod them correctly, even if you use the mods created by others is not an easy task. WebsitesBeing a kind of web junkie I have a very low threshold of clickbait resistance. That doesn't mean that I read anything on the web. Moreover, I know exactly what is clickbait in the bad sense of the word as soon as I see the title or picture. To click things that attract you on the web and read them is a very dynamic, unplanned kind of leisure activity. Run-of-the-mill clickbait, that I can resist. Yet, I have a browser extension that shows me popular articles on Pocket when I open a new tab and there is where I almost always bite. Still, being things that people with the Pocket extension saved, and that are deemed popular by the platform guarantees that most of the time the articles have a certain baseline of quality. My favorite types of websites are those that give information and reading material about both defunct and alive horror amusements, and blogs that people with odd tastes and a lot of passion publish. If you are a horror head and like campy and ephemeral horror amusements, and if you like to learn the social, economical, and technical aspects of said amusements, I would recommend you to visit these websites: MetaverseI love to immerse myself in the metaverse and explore it as a form of casual leisure. My access to the metaverse is through the good old Second Life version of it. I have been using it since 2007 or so. I had several phases that I wanted to fit into the community, but I realized it doesn't interest me enough to reach the level of involvement and investment that you need to belong. Readable LeisureI am a voracious reader. Not a single day goes by without me reading from at least two different books. One that I generally read while I'm eating or resting, and another in bed before falling asleep. BooksWhen I was younger I used to read a lot of fiction. Today, not that much. I dare say that ninety percent of the books I read today are non-fiction. In general, I read books that teach me things and enhance my skill set. ComicsI never stopped reading comics since childhood. Today I read things that are classified more like graphic novels, but I can't say I don't relish reading kiddy comics. Why do I read kiddy comics? I am not retarded, but I am very passionate about old-school, classic kid comics, like for instance Nancy by Ernie Bushmiller. That is because someday when I find the time to finish the cartooning course I already started, I would like to create comic strips. Reading classic comics made by masters like Bushmiller or Marge is not just amusing, is a learning experience. I still don't know why I read much more comics during the summer. I always leave comics with a winter theme for the winter. My favorite contemporary comics are the Hellblazer series and the Sandman series. I'm also a hardcore fan of Tales from The Crypt and everything else that EC comics published. © 2022 Bholenath Valsan — My Favorite Leisure [ Work ]
